The Niceville Library is pleased to host an art exhibit during the month of April featuring two talented local artists, Helen Blair and John Pretti.
Helen Blair is an award winning artist and art instructor, who continues to do portrait work on commission in oils –landscapes in oils and acrylics, pen and ink with watercolor, collage work, and with oils on glass. She teaches art for the Center for Lifelong Learning at the University of West Florida, Fort Walton Beach Campus, adult classes at Artful things in Niceville, as well as weekly children’s classes at Artful Things.
John Pretti is a retired Army veteran and has never considered himself an artist, but a doodler. Drawing has been his hobby since childhood. He has sketched his entire family, military vehicles, animals, churches, as well as family pets. One of his drawings was of General Patton which is now permanently displayed in General Patton’s family museum. You can see a copy of it in the library’s display case.
Both artists share their talents with the community. Helen teaches the art of the Old Masters to elementary school students for a volunteer teacher program in the county school system. She also teaches art for the Arts and Design Society’s summer youth program on a regular basis, as well as, adult classes. John volunteers to do the flyers for various events, especially Oktoberfest. He also donates some of his drawings to raise money for the EOD Memorial Fund and the Blackhorse Scholarship Fund.
